Jerome Michael "Sonny" Mazoch, 86, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange. Jerome was born in Holman, Texas on September 29, 1926, the son of the late C. J. and Anna (Vacek) Mazoch. Jerome served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He was a combat veteran of World War II and Korea. In the Navy, he was in the SEABEES (Construction Battalion). He was a graduate of La Grange High School and Blinn College. He was very active and involved in many different organizations. Jerome was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, American Legion Post #0102, South Central Texas Old Timers Baseball Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5254, and the Alumni Association of Blinn College. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, KJT, Fayette County Sheriff's Posse, and Fayette County Czech Heritage Society. He was a past president of the Country Music Club of Fayette County and Fayette County Czech Heritage Society. He is survived by his long time companion, Evelyn Jecmenek; son, Bruce Mazoch of Houston; two sisters: Agnes Struve of La Grange, and Alma Berger of Houston; two grandsons: Jason Michael Mazoch and Jerrod Mazoch; great grandson, Gavin Mazoch; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chad Mazoch; two brothers: Jimmie Mazoch and John Mazoch; and sister, Leona Watzlavick. (Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home)
