Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Feb. 22, 1969, Saturday, p. 3-A: Dr. Bean, 79, Dies After Short Illness Dr. Dorf Bean, 79, of 615 Oneonta St., died at 6:30 a.m. Friday at his home after a short illness. He was an ear, nose and throat specialist here for 38 years and had also served as aviation medical examiner for 36 years. Dr. Bean was appointed a Class 1 senior examiner July 11, 1927, and was the oldest Shreveport examiner in point of service upon his retirement in 1963 and he was believed to be one of the oldest examiners in the nation. He had certified thousands of pilots for flight service. He was a native of Kirbyville, Tex., and a graduate of the Tulane University School of Medicine. He had been practicing medicine here since 1925 and had lived in Shreveport 45 years. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. J. Frank Alexander, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery. Survivors include his widow; a son, Lt. Col. Frank E. Bean of Fort Ord, Calif., and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. Douglas Kerlin, Dr. Sam Kerlin, Jack Whited, Felix Rives, Henry Furman, Calvin Smiley, Thomas W. Wilson and Walter McCook.
