Bio

Birth date calculated from age at death. According to his wife's obituary they were married at Krchleby, Czechoslovakia in 1876 and emigrated to the United States in 1900, settling near Brainard. See the David City Butler County Press , April 17, 1947, p. 1, col. 7. His son Joseph's obituary states he was born at Statesdorf, St. Polten, Austria (1888) and came to the United States in 1902 ( Butler County Press , June 1, 1950, p. 1, col. 4). Passenger list for the SS Zeeland which arrived in New York City from Antwerp, Belgium on November 26, 1901: Johann Augusta (age 46, laborer), Antonie (48), Karl (18, laborer), Josef (14), Anna (9), Josefa (6), Angela (3), nationality Low Austria, last residence Hattersdorf, nativity Bohemia, destination Bruno, Nebr., passage paid by brother-in-law.
