Former Business man Joseph Karty, 63 Buried Monday Requiem services were conducted here Monday morning for Joseph E. Karty, 63 year old WW I veteran and former Ord business man, who died Wednesday at a Grand Island hospital following a long illness. Interment followed military services at graveside in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. The Ord American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars shared the military services. Mr. Karty was a veteran of the United States Army medical corps and after discharge in 1918 he moved to Ord where he married Miss Agnes Beran. Prior to entering the Army he had been a native of Elba. He operated a hardware business at Loup City for two years then later bought the Sershen Bros. Hardware here. He was in business here 19 years, retiring about ten years ago when his health failed. His business in now Beran's Hardware. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Beloin of Redmond, Wash.; one granddaughter, four sisters; Mary Pokraka of Holden, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Josie Wardyn of Litchfield, Mrs. Katie Gizinski of Holyoke, Colo., and Mrs. Helen Iwanski.
