Mrs. Novotny passed away last Wednesday evening at 10 p.m. At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Risan, being at the time of her death 78 years, nine months and 17 days of age. Born on March 31, 1854 in Kosova Hora, Selcani, Bohemia, Mrs. Novotny's maiden name was Rose Tuma. In the year 1870 she became the bride of Joseph Novotny and in 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Novotny and five small children moved to the United States and settled west of Ord in Valley county. Four more children were born to the union after their immigration to America. In 1889 the family moved to Brown county, Nebraska, but did not stay long, deciding in 1896 to go to Oklahoma to make their home. There they lived on a farm 3 ½ miles east of Prague. Mr. Novotny preceded his wife in death, passing away in 1903. Two years later his widow moved from the farm to Shawnee, Okla, and in 1919 she came to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Risan, where she made her home until her death. She had not been very well for quite a period before her last illness. Left to mourn were five sons and three daughters: John Novotny of Shawnee, Okla., Albert Novotny of Padin, Okla.,Tony Novotny of Okemaha, Okla., Louis Novotny of Wagner, Okla., J.M. Novotny of Ord, Mrs. Mary Sestak, of Prague, Okla., Mrs. Anna Hardwick of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Frances Risan of Ord. A son Frank, preceded his mother in death. Interested chiefly in her home and family, Mrs. Novotny nevertheless made many friends in the several communities where she lived who will miss her now that she is gone to her last rest.
