Son of John and Kate Molovec Risan ------------------------------------------------ Pernicious Anemia Claims Joe Risan Respected Sand Flats Farmer Dies Monday After Long Illness, Is Laid to Rest Wednesday After a long illness with pernicious anemia Joe Risan, 56, a respected farmer of the sand flats community north of Ord, passed away at his home at 11:45 a.m. Monday, April 10. during the last five weeks of his illness he had been bed-fast. Born July 26, 1876 in Bohemia, the deceased came to the United States with his parents, John and Katerina Risan, as an infant and his whole life was spent in Valley county. In 1906 he was married at the Geranium church west of Ord to Miss Frances Novotny and to them one son was born, Ernest, who with the widow survives. A devout Catholic, Mr. Risan was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. yesterday at St. Mary's Catholic church here with Father Lawler in charge and interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were close friends and neighbors, J.M. Novotny, John Zabloudil, Frank Adamek, W. A. Moravec, Joe Korbelic and Will Novosad. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Apr 13 1933, Pg 1, Col 4
