Morris M. Keefe Morris M. Keefe, 80, of Ord died Nov. 4, 1996 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be Fri. Nov. 8, at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post #38 and VFW Post #7029, Ord. Morris Matthew Keefe was born in Greeley County, Neb., on March 14, 1916 to Mathew and Mary (McGowen) Keefe. At an early age he moved with his family to Garfield County where he attended school. In 1939 he and his older brother, Jim, traveled to California to seek employment. On June 3, 1941 while in California, he was drafted into the Army and served until Oct. 16, 1945. He was a veteran of WWII. As Staff Sergeant, his tour of duty took him to Fort Leonardwood, MO., San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On August 15, 1942 he was united in marriage to Therese Ileen Hansen in Fort Leonardwood, Mo. For over 40 years the family farmed and ranched in Valley and Custer Counties, ultimately settling south of Sargent. He enjoyed milking cows, working at area sale barns and riding horses. He was known to have enjoyed an occasional practical joke and was an avid rodeo and baseball fan. Survivors include his wife, Therese of Ord; three daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Larry) Young of Comstock, Karla (Mrs. Tom) Knott of Thedford and Kimberly (Mrs. Rick) Glendy of Broken Bow; two sons, Richard of Cairo and Matthew of Comstock; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother Bernard Keefe of Kinnewick, Wash.; and three sisters, Marie Suchanek of Cheyenne, Wyo., Irene Kepner of Sun City, Ariz., and Alice McCormick of Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Matthew Keefe; two brothers, Jim Keefe and Francis Keefe; three sisters, Lillian McKinney, Kathryn Vernon and Rose Ellen McKinney.
