She came to America in 1881 at the age of 11 years settling first in Fayette County, Texas. She worked at different things and for different people and it was three years before she finally got her passage across the ocean paid for. In 1896, she married Joseph Macha at Fayette County, Texas. His wife had died in 1894 or 1895, leaving four small children.
