Helen Kokes (KO-kesh) was a beloved teacher in the Ord (Nebraska) high school for many years. She taught typing, shorthand, and other secretarial skills. She was a very good teacher. Students liked her. She was killed in an automobile accident. Thanks to Nebord for the above ------------------------------- Obituary Helen Hamsa was born on a farm in Stanton County, December 25, 1899, the first child and only daughter of Rudolf and Barbara Luxa Hamsa. When she was a young child her family moved to a farm near Clarkson in Colfax county. She attended country school there and graduated from Clarkson High School. After teaching in country schools for several years, she enrolled in the University of Nebraska. She graduated from the University's Teachers College in 1922 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1953 she did graduate work at the Colorado State College of Education in Greeley. After graduation from the University she came to Ord where she taught business education in Ord High School until her marriage on June 10, 1942 to Edward L. Kokes, then a banker in Scotia. The family lived in Scotia until 1932 when they moved to Ord. Their only child, Delores (Dot) was born while the family resided in Scotia. (At this point in the obituary, many paragraphs are written citing Mrs. Kokes' Civic and Business Roles in the community) She is survived by her husband, Edward L.; her daughter, Mrs. Glenn L.
