Bio
Clara Ruth Winans was born June 1, 1918, the daughter of Arthur and Marjorie Penner Dickenman. She died Friday, October 2, 2009, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one. Ruth was born in Henderson, Nebraska. She and her parents moved to Ricketts, Iowa, when she was a small child. She graduated from Charter Oak High School. On December 29, 1937, she was united in marriage to Vernon Leeper. Together they ran a trucking business in Charter Oak. Ruth married Henry Winans in 1971 and they enjoyed traveling. She worked at Cronk's Restaurant for many years, then the Holiday Station, and retired from working at Super Valu at age 72. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and Kismet with her family, and making the best homemade fudge. Her favorite pastime was watching NASCAR racing. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She is survived by two daughters: Gayle Hickey and her husband, Jim of Texas; Becky Smallwood of Denison; two sons: Jerry Leeper of Denison; Brent Leeper and his wife, Sharron of California; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of arrangements.
