Taken from The Edna Sun, June 23, 1999: Mrs. Dorothy LaVern Sands, age 76, of Coffeyville died Friday, June 18, 1999 at Jane Phillips Medical Center of Bartlesville, OK. She was born January 23, 1923 in Cherryvale to Vernor W. and Ethel May (Majors) Wallingford). She attended a rural elementary school near her home and graduated from Mound Valley High School. She and and Joseph Guy Sands were married on February 21, 1947. They later divorced. She had found employment as a waitress, as well as Krogers, Lee Garment Factory and 25 years at ACC. She was currently employed by Dana Engine Control in Independence. She was a formr PTA mother. Survivors include one son, Russell Sands of Coffeyville; three sisters, Leona Pinkston of Tulsa, OK, Jane Howery of St. Louis, MO, and Shirley Manning of Topeka; and one granddaughter, Russhell Sands of Coffeyville. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Hazel Vail. Funeral services were held Monday, June 21 in Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel with burial in Mound Valley Cemetery of Mound Valley. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God, Kids Church, and may be left at the funeral home.
