Bio

Eleanor R. McClain, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, NE. Eleanor, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Bernt) Gabriel, was born Nov. 16, 1934, on a farm near Osceola, NE. Eleanor attended Osceola (NE.)elementary and high school, graduating in 1952. She furthered her education at The University of Nebraska at Kearney. She taught in Polk County, NE. rural school for six years and Belgrade (NE.) Public Schools for two years. Eleanor worked as a secretary for Yax-Pontiac-Cadillac Co. in Lincoln after her marriage. She worked one year for Madison Star Mail and 18 years for J.C. Penney's in Norfolk, NE. She retired as a merchandising assistant in January 1997. On June 13, 1959, she married T/Sgt B.J. "Mac" McClain of McSherrystown, Pa. After Mac's retirement they settled in Madison in January 1974. Eleanor was a member of St. Leonard's Church; retired enlistment association, national auxiliary; COLA Auxiliary; Service Auxiliary. She was an active member of VFW and American Legion auxiliary, holding offices as chaplin and secretary. Eleanor is survived by: daughter, Rogena (Kevin) Blum of Norfolk, NE; sons, Donald (Sally) McClain of St. Paul, NE., Dr. Joseph (Tina) McClain of Crofton, Md., and Ronald McClain and his fiancee, Brenda Stoffel of Columbus, NE.; brothers, Don Gabriel of Osceola, NE., Ben (Joyce) Gabriel of Sargent, NE. and LeRoy (Karen) Gabriel of Laramie, WY.; sister, JoAnn (Harold) Martens of Rising City, NE.; grandchildren Jason Blum, Travis Blum, Derrick Blum, Alicia Blum, Sasha McClain, Shannen McClain, Dallas McClain, Megan McClain, Joseph McClain II, Gabriel McClain; and two great-grandsons, Dominick Blum and Gavin Blum. Eleanor was preceded in death by: parents and husband, B. J. "Mac" in 1997. Burial was in the St. Leonard's Catholic Church parish cemetery, Madison, NE.
