Ethel Earlene Smith, 71, of Arkansas City, KS died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Riverview Manor, Oxford, KS. Cremation has been effected. Memorial services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Crowder Cemetery, Crowder, Oklahoma. Earlene was born February 17, 1941, to Earnest L. and Ethel B. (Crow) Long in Pittsburg County, OK. She was reared and educated in Crowder, OK graduating from Crowder High School. After high school Earlene joined the Army. She served her country for two years before being honorably discharged. On December 29, 1960, she married Donald Ray Smith in Detroit, MI. Earlene was a homemaker and a house wife. She enjoyed reading and her family. Survivors include her daughter Colleen "Heather" Scalf and husband J.D. of Fort Worth, TX; son, Shaun P. Smith of Arkansas City, KS; sister Ellis E. Haney of Arkansas City, KS; four grandchildren, Drew Miller, Erika Bischof, Thomas Bischof Jr., and Matthew Bischof. Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, three brothers, Elias E. Long, Estes E. Long, Earnest E. Long, and a sister, Eda E. Brown. A memorial has been established with the A.S.P.C.A. Contribution may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
