Bio

The Bay City Tribune, November 5, 2006: Helen Marie Martin, age 82, of Pledger, died Friday October 27, 2006 in Sugar Land, TX following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 9, 1924 in Hungerford, Texas, daughter of the late Herman Scholz and Lydia Planka Scholz. Helen was raised in the Hungerford area and attended school there. Mrs. Martin was a former resident of Freeport and lived in the Pledger area since 1981. She retired from Brazosport ISD where she worked as a manager of the cafeteria and from Van Vleck ISD where she was a school bus driver. She married Mr. Clarence Boyd (C.B.) Martin on June 3, 1943 in Wharton; he preceded her in death on March 15, 2003. Mrs. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pledger. Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, cards, dominoes and traveling with friends and family. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Wharton Funeral Home with the Reverend Willard Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Visitation was from 5 until 7 pm Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the Wharton Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Scott Salas, Brandon Martin, Peyton Martin, Justin Martin, Bill Douglas and Thomas James. Honorary pallbearers are Douglas James, Mike Ezell, Benny Ezell, and Thomas Ezell. Survivors include daughter, Sandra Siegel and husband, Paul of Lane City; sons, Ted Martin and wife, Melody of Brazoria and Bobby Martin and wife, Sandra of Beaumont; sisters, Genieve Shedyak of Hallettsville and Bernice James of Bay City; grandchildren, Scott Salas, Carmen Douglas, Justin Martin, Lori Martin, Tamara Spruell, Robbie Spruell, Brandon Martin, Peyton Martin, Stephanie, Stacey, Sharla and Ashley along with 12 great grandchildren also survive. If desiring, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2400 Augusta Dr. Suite 175, Houston, Texas 77057. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
