Aberdeen American News (SD) - Friday, December 19, 2014 Deceased Name: Andrew 'A.T.' Schumacher Ipswich: Mass of Christian burial for Andrew "A.T." Schumacher, 94, of Ipswich is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday with a liturgical wake and Rosary starting at 5 p.m. all at the church. Andrew Theodore Schumacher, better known as "A.T.," was born June 8, 1920, to Joseph A. and Genevieve (Tuscherer) Schumacher at Ipswich. He attended Holy Cross School before graduating from Ipswich High School. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married Agnes in 1952. They farmed north of Ipswich. A.T. never left the farm as it was his lifeblood. He was proud to be a real farmer, being a good steward of the land and caring deeply for his cattle. He and his sons continued to farm at the time of his death. While A.T. was most content being on the farm, he found peace in a deep-rooted faith in the Catholic Church. He would make sure that his family was in church at Holy Cross Catholic Church nearly every weekend, even braving closed roads and severe weather to attend. As he aged and his health deteriorated, he still could be found at the front of the church for Masses and funerals. A.T. also loved to attend dances and raised several dogs during his lifetime. He died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at his residence. Thankful for having shared in his life are his two sons: Randy Schumacher and David (Gloria) Schumacher both of Ipswich; one sister, Elizabeth Stolken of Cour d'Alene, Idaho; three grandsons: Chris and Steven of Wyoming, and Joshua in Texas; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents; two brothers: Wally and John; one sister, Bertha; wife, Agnes; and son, Michael, preceded him in death.
