Bio

Wilma Oselite Gaines Glasscock, (Miss Wilma or Wilma,) was born October 6, 1915; she went on to be with our Lord on September 3, 2012. She passed away peacefully and without pain, while asleep. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at 1:00 in the afternoon in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, 5750 US Highway 277 S., Abilene, TX, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Miss Wilma's family moved to Abilene, TX from Throckmorton, TX, when she was seven years old. She attended Alta Vista Elementary School the first day the doors opened, after walking down a dirt road with her classmates to get there. Later years, she attended Abilene High School and then went on to McMurry University for two years. Miss Wilma's career in the fashion and shoes industry was her passion. She took great care to make sure her customers were happy. Miss Wilma worked long hours, and was very meticulous about her responsibilities. Wilma was a fixture in the Abilene area for her talent and ability to match women's accessories in an era when style was significant and colors mattered. She worked for several well-known retailers including Thornton's, Bernice Proctor, and manager of Paul's Shoes before retiring. After retirement, Wilma was able to do some well-deserved traveling. She traveled to Europe, Asia and other countries. Some of her fondest memories were of her loyal customers, managing her store, and her travels. Miss Wilma loved to tell stories - long stories. Later when her body became tired, she had many dedicated, loving caregivers and visitors that came into her home. She would enlighten their lives with fond memories of her long life. If you were one of the lucky ones to have been touched by Miss Wilma's life - pass it on. Pass on her humor, her honesty, her strength, her compassion, and by all means, her stubbornness. Your life is now better for having known her, and now others can be too, through you. Miss Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Wylie and Pearl (Berry) Gaines; her brother, Royce; and her beloved husband, John A. Glasscock. Miss Wilma is survived by her cousin, Eloise Daniel of Abilene; and by Jeff, Deneen, Logan, and Riley Bullock of Taylors, South Carolina. Miss Wilma had many charities that she supported over the years. Should you decide to support one of these as well, in lieu of flowers, the partial list would include: the Abilene Zoo, P.O. Box 60, Abilene, Texas 79604; West Texas Rehab, 4601 Hartford Street, Abilene, Texas 79605; and St. John's Episcopal School, 1600 Sherman Drive, Abilene, Texas 79605.
