Helen was the first Roman Catholic to be elected as President of the Church Women United of Greater Dallas in 1982. She had held the position of President of St Paul's Ladies Guild. She had been active in the National Council of Catholic Woman since in 1950's. She had held positions at the parish level at St Joseph's in Bellmead, St. Mary's and St Louis in Waco, and at St Paul's in Richardson. At the Diocesan level in both the Austin and Dallas dioceses.
