Bio

David Rhem Johnson was born of George Washington Johnson and Martha Ann Loftin on 12 Dec 1868 in Hill County Texas (Death Certificate shows b:Mississippi). The family had moved there from Newton County Mississippi soon after the end of the Civil War. David was the oldest of a family of six children. Next was Minnie born Feb 1870, Will W born 18 Apr 1872, Mary born Oct 1877, Silas Barnes born Aug 1879 and Mattie E Johnson born about 1888. I believe all were born in Hill County Texas except maybe not for Mattie. David married Mary Ellen Spainhour and had the following eight children. William B b:23 May 1890; Ann b:19 Feb 1893; Horace Shelby b:2 May 1895 in Morgan, Bosque, Texas; Naoma E b:1 Nov 1897; Sanford Odell b:1 Mar 1900 in Cleburne, Johnson, Texas; Reine b:4 Feb 1904; George A b:16 Jan 1906; and Alline b:31 Aug 1909 in Meridian, Bosque Texas. David was listed in the census of 1900 in Cleburne, Johnson, Texas as a bridge builder. He was listed in the census of 1910 in Meridian, Bosque, Texas as a farmer, and in the 1920 census Henrietta, Clay, Texas as a section forman for the railroad. After Mary Ellen died in Dec 1917, David married Minnie M and she is listed in the 1920 census. David Rhem Johnson died 25 Oct 1924 in Canadian, Hemphill, Texas of Pulmonary Tuberculosus, and was buried in Mobeetie, Wheeler, Texas next to Mary Ellen on 26 Oct 1924. In 2007 it was reported by Dale Corcoran, the caretaker that the gravesite locations are unknown and unmarked. May he rest in peace. Donald B Whitener
