Born in the village of Prosec, town of Humpolec, county of Caslav, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic), the son of John and Joanna [maiden name illegible] Wittera. Settled in Butler County, Nebr. in 1872. Married (2) Agnes Smith on May 12, 1878 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. Possibly brother of Mary (Vitera) Mensik who named her parents as Jan Vittera and Johanna Hruza in her second marriage record (to Frank Mensik at Linwood, Nebr. on February 15, 1896). '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' People's Banner (David City, Nebr.), July 17, 1902, p. 5 col. 3 Vaclav Wittera of Skull Creek, died last Thursday evening of Bright's Disease after a week's illness. The funeral was at the Catholic church in Abie Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Father Pokorney. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery at that place beside the remains of his first wife who died about twenty years ago. Deceased was one of the oldest settlers and highly respected citizens in that part of the county. The funeral services were held at the Abie Catholic church Saturday, after which interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
