Born in Moravia, the son of John and Lena (Polednva?) Polak. Married Mrs. Mary Smalik on January 19, 1891 at Weston, Nebr. by Rev. Alois J. Klein, Catholic priest. 1900 census (Newman Precinct, Saunders County, Nebr.): John Polok (April 1848, Bohemia, farmer, immigrated 1881), Mary Polok (wife, March 1851, Bohemia, immigrated 1881, married nine years, mother of three children, two living), Veronica Bartik (stepdaughter, April 1881, Nebr., in school), Barbara Bartik (stepdaughter, Jan 1884, Nebr., in school), Joseph Polok (son, April 1892, Nebr., in school). 1910 census (Elk Precinct, Saunders County, Nebr.): John Polak (67, farmer, Austria-Bohemia, first marriage, married 22 years, immigrated 1875), Mary (wife, 52, Austria-Bohemia, second marriage, married 22 years, immigrated 1875), Veronika (daughter, 25, Nebr.), Joseph (son, 18, Nebr., farm laborer). ''''''' The Peoples Banner (David City, Nebr.), July 12, 1923, p. 5, col. 3 ABIE Grandpa Polak passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Kucera, here last Friday evening, following a stroke of paralysis lasting three days. He was 83 years of age. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. He is survived by his wife, four step children, one son. They are Mrs. Lucas Bartlek of Valparaiso, Mrs. Malina of Bruno, Mrs. James Kucera of Abie and one son, Joseph Polak, of Brainard.
