Bio

Son of John and Sarah McMullen. It is with sadness that we are rallied upon the death of James A. Hevener who passed from this Janurary 21, 1921. Mr. Hevener was in failing health for somedtime and one week before his death was stricken with apoloxy from which he never rallied, although semi conscious most of the time before his death. Born November 20, 1850, at Deer Run he had just passed his seventieth year and was entering the seventy first. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Susan Miller, of Kline, of this union he is survived by Mrs. F.A. Miller, of Kesyer, Mrs Edward Kesner, Hasper A., Verlie A. and Miss Ada of Kline. There mother Susan was killed in a runaway many years ago. The second union was with Miss Jennie Moser of Kline, and those who survive are; The widow, Miss Mamie and Marvin at home, one daughter, Eula preceded him to the grave just a little more than a year ago. "Uncle Jim" as he was familiarly called was a successful farmer and merchant. By thrift and industry he acquired several farms. About 25 years ago he bought the store at Kline then owned by George W. Mallow and with his daughter Miss Ada Hevener he began his career as a merchant, which is so well and favorably known. Being always progressive his store was considered one of the leading country stores. Fair dealings and honest in all transactions was his motto, his word being as good as his bond. With his son Hasper he bought the grist mill and transformed it into a first class Roller mill with modern improvements and fixtures. But there was another side to his life which not neglected in the stress of business, more than forty years ago he gave his life to Christ and joined the Mt. Zion M.E> South Church in which he remained a true and consistent member till the end. After moving to Kline he attended U.B. Church and labored just as faithfully as in the one of his first choice having served for many years a Supt. of the Sunday school. Whenever able he attended the services giving his time and his means for furtherance of the Kingdom. Abstracted from Pendleton County obituraries sent to me from Shock.
