Herald Coaster, February 11, 1992: Funeral services for Johnnie Eugene Boyd, 72, of Wharton, are scheduled 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Schroeder will officiate, with burial at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Boyd died late Saturday night in a Wharton hospital after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Glen Flora, the son of James Pleas and Sara Delna Cox Boyd. Mr. Boyd had been a lifelong resident of Wharton County and a resident of Wharton since 1946. He was owner of Boyd's Gulf Station in Wharton until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Boyd was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 87 in Wharton and was a past commander. He was a Baptist. He married Edna Collins in September 1940 in Wharton and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1973. He later married Marie Brenk and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1988. He was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include his sons and their wives, Johnny and Randy Boyd, and Donnie and Sharon Boyd, all of Rosenberg, and Jerry and Diane Boyd of Pleasanton, Calif.; sisters, Bessie Olson of El Campo and Helen Jones of Lake Placid, Florida; a brother, Horace Boyd of Houston; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Michael Boyd, John William Boyd, John William Dusek, Kenneth Boyd, Dennis Dees, and Brian Miller. Memorials may be made to the East Wharton County Heart Association, Box 226, Hungerford 77448. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton.
