Wilma Mavis Schipper, age 88, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of William and Minnie Boelman, on December 8, 1923, in Grundy County, near Aplington. She received her education from a rural country school near her home. On December 15, 1941, Wilma was united in marriage with George J. Schipper at the First Reformed Church parsonage in Aplington. The couple made their home and farmed north of Aplington until they retired from farming in 1967. They moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years where they worked as custodians at Holmes Jr. High School and then returned to live in Aplington. Through the years Wilma was a loving wife and homemaker. She also worked as a Nurse's Aide at Maple Manor Nursing Home and custodian for the Aplington School. Wilma was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington, where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, having breakfast at Dean's Grocery and going for coffee at the Aplington Dairy Sweet. She kept the Sabbath day Holy and Sundays became a very important day throughout her life. She always tried to listen to church services on the radio if she was unable to attend. She cherished her time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and loved having company. Wilma passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, from complications following a fall in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George J. Schipper in 2001; one grandson, Cory Groeneveld in 1994; two brothers, Raymond and George Boelman; and two sisters, Laura Brass and Grace Jungling. Wilma is survived by two sons, Duane A.
