PHYLLIS M. (PELAN) PABIAN was born December 1, 1943, in David City, Nebraska, to Louis and Antonia "Tonie" (Busek) Pelan. She passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln, of complications while battling lung cancer. She attended school in Schuyler, where she participated in vocal music. In 1965, she married George H. Pabian. Two children were born to this union, Jeffrey and Penny. They made their home in Morse Bluff and later in Schuyler. In 2008 she moved to Lincoln to be closer to her family and care for her grandchildren. Phyllis worked at Johnnies Steak House in Schuyler for over ten years and worked with her parents at their family owned business, the Town Pump Tavern in Schuyler for many years. She then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years as a rural mail carrier in Valparaiso, North Bend and Morse Bluff, retiring at the age of 62 years. Over the years, Phyllis enjoyed the many patrons on her various routes. She was a life-member of V.F.W. Auxiliary No. 3704 in Columbus, Nebraska. Phyllis enjoyed cooking for her family, always trying new recipes along with the family favorite, potato dumplings with pork and sauerkraut. She enjoyed singing, line dancing, polka music and gardening. She loved cats and even cared for many stray animals on her mail route. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clarice Pelan and Donna Larsen-Ross. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Lola) Pabian of Lincoln; daughter, Penny Pabian (John) Brian of Ashland, NE; three grandchildren, Ashley Wardman of West Des Moines, IA, Gabby and Jake Pabian of Lincoln; brothers, Gary Pelan of Columbus, NE, Michael (Jeanne) Pelan of The Woodlands, TX, Lynn (Karen) Pelan of Oakland, NE; many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, September 8, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, Nebraska. VISITATION: The family will receive friends Friday, September 7, 2012, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Visitation will also be held Saturday one hour prior to the service at Moser Funeral home.
