The Butler Herald 28 Nov 1935 p 1 Beloved Reynolds Man Follows Wife In Death Death Tuesday of Mr. WM. L. Blackmon is Occasion of Much Sorrow Among Long List of Relatives and Friends That death loves a shining mark was truly exemplified in the passing of Mr. William Levy Blackmon, who by the dispensation of an Alwise Providence, has been given a place around the Great White Throne, the date of this glorious transfiguration being about 9 o'clock Tuesday night. He had been in declining health for more than a year, previous to which time he was actively engaged in farming and in which he had been remarkably successful. Mr. Blackmon had been sorely grieved since the going away of his devoted companion a few months ago, who before their marriage was Miss Susie Bryan, of Macon county. Mr. Blackmon, a native of Macon county, was the son of the late Mr. William and Edith Ogburn Blackmon, and was born May 8, 1853. He had been a resident of Reynolds for 27 years and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was a devout man of God and prominent member of New Hope Primitive Baptist church. Mr. Blackmon is survived by one daughter, Mrs. T. A. Blythe. One brother also survives him, Mr. R. H. Blackmon, together with one nephew Mr. T. G. Hamilton, of Kingsland, Ga., and three nieces, Miss Elda Blackmon, Mrs. E. F. Seay and Mrs. William Ratcliff. Funeral rites, conducted by Elder Daily, with interment in the family lot, Hill Crest cemetery, Reynolds, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Pallbearers were: Messrs Irvin and Lewis Taunton, Joe Cannon, Lonnie Jones, Tom Hamilton and Ben Frank Eubanks. G. H. Goddard funeral director.
