Wharton Journal-Spectator, January 3, 2004: Lydia Lillian Hundl, age 85, of Wharton, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. She was born on May 13, 1918 in Fayetteville, the daughter of the late Josef S. Kostka and Mary Gerik Kostka. Mrs. Hundl had been a resident of Wharton since 1920 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She married Edmund B. Hundl on June 22, 1937 in Wharton. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Holy Family Altar Society, and was a past-president of the Holy Family Mother's Club. Mrs. Hundl was a homemaker, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and growing flowers. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating and assisted by Rev. John Kunnathukuzhy. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her husband, Ed Hundl of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Marie and Raymond Rabius of East Bernard, Priscilla and Sidney Davis of Richmond, Lorna and Marvin Kaiser of Wharton, Debbie and Jim Lee of Lane City, and Carla J. Hundl of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Gloria Hundl and Gilbert and Theresa Hundl, all of Wharton, John and Donna Hundl of Brazoria, and Gene and Belinda Hundl of East Bernard; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Pallbearers were Russell Rabius, Travis Hundl, Chris Bock, Eric Hundl, Chad Hundl, and Jared Hundl. Honorary Pallbearers were all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
