Bio

The Victoria Advocate, April 15, 2011: Mr. Anton "Tony" Svatek, age 73, of Wharton died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in a Rosenberg Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on March 17, 1938 in Iago, a son of the late John Frank Svatek and Angelina Hajek Svatek. Mr. Svatek attended school in Cresent. He served his country in the United States Army rising to the rank of corporal before earning his honorable discharge on March 26, 1959. Tony worked as a mechanic at Von-Will Ford and for the Wharton School District as a bus mechanic. Tony enjoyed visiting with friends and family, gardening, and his beer and cigarettes. He was a member of the Wharton Knights of Columbus, the BJ Coffee Drinkers Club and Holy Family Church. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his sister, Henrietta Barta and her husband, Johnny; nephew, Johnny Barta Jr.; brother, Jimmie Svatek and wife Adeline; niece, Denise Reck; brother, Benjamin Svatek; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Labay and John Toman; and sister-in-law, Rita Jean Piwonka. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. this evening, April 15, 2011, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at the Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako and Father Bill Bartniski officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include his sisters, Agnes Labay of Nada, Janice Toman and Bernadette Toman of Rosenberg; and brothers, Johnny Svatek and wife, Delores, of Wharton, George Svatek and wife, Frances, of Temple, Laddie Svatek and wife, Rosalie, of Wharton, Jody Svatek and wife, Bernadette, of Wharton, Billy Svatek and wife, Josephine, of Needville, Tommy Svatek and wife, Lauren, of Missouri City, and David Svatek of Rosenberg. Pallbearers will be Brad Svatek, Michael Barta, Johnny Ray Svatek, Lawrence Labay Jr., Gerald Toman, Charlie Toman, Jeffrey Svatek and Matthew Svatek. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Svatek Jr., Eugene Labay, Patrick Labay, Kenny Svatek, Andrew Labay, Edwin Labay, Bobby Labay, Kris Svatek, Kevin Svatek, Kenny Svatek, John Toman Jr., Dwayne Svatek, Troy Svatek, Steven Svatek, Greg Dukes, Jarrell Perrin and Myke Toman. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488 or the charity of your choice. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
