LEVELLAND-Earl Mixon Palmer Jr., 88, of Levelland, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas, and will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas. Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery in Levelland, Texas. There will be a family visitation today, Aug. 29, 2012, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas. Baldy was born on July 17, 1924, in Grandfield, Okla. He was the son of Earl Mixon Sr. and Edna (Atchison) Palmer. Baldy moved to Levelland in 1926 and called it his home for 86 years. He was the quarterback for the undefeated 1940 Levelland Lobo football team. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged after the war and returned to Levelland to own and operate Palmer Brothers with his brothers, M.G. and Judge. Some of his many business ventures included restaurants, farming, banking, and oil and gas. Palmer Brothers remains in operation today. Baldy married the love of his life, Evelyn Veretto, in 1952. Baldy loved his family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, and his wonderful great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; one son, Billy Mack Palmer and his wife, Pat, of Levelland, Texas; one grandson, M. Tait Palmer and his wife, Alyssa, of Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Gina Palmer Riess and her husband, Ryan, of Palmyra, Penn.; one great-grandson, Grayson Palmer; one great-granddaughter, Zoe Riess; one brother, Judge Palmer and his wife, LaVerne, of Levelland, Texas; and two sisters-in-law, Faye Veretto of Levelland, Texas, and Katy Madry of Lubbock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, M.G. Palmer. The family suggests memorials to: The Michael Frescaz Scholarship Fund at South Plains College, 1401 South College Avenue, Box 148, Levelland, TX 79336.
