Bio
1930 ~ 2012 After a long, full and productive life, Shirley Swensen Wallin Thompson left her family and countless friends on August 22, 2012. Shirley was born in Murray, Utah on January 20, 1930. She graduated from Murray High School, went on to attend Utah State University and graduated from the University of Utah. She married Sherman Wallin, later divorced. She married Lynn Thompson, later divorced. Shirley was a loving mother, dear friend, schoolteacher, reporter, painter, organist and avid gardener. She filled many roles in life and will be sorely missed. She was a long time resident of Murray, and loved the city and her friends and neighbors there. She is survived by her 3 sons; Kelly Thompson (Erin Payne), Brad Wallin (Kathy), and George Wallin (Linda Midgley); and 6 grandchildren; Oscar Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Tammy Wallin Bonner, Jason Wallin, Ryan Meinzer and Nick Meinzer. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Beatrice Swensen, and her brother Bruce. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012, and a Celebration of Life, Tuesday, August 28, 2012, from 11 to noon at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray. Graveside services at the Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 No. 400 E.,Lehi, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 28,2012. Shirley's beloved cats provided her with many happy hours, especially her long-time companion Max. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Best Friends or the Humane Society of Utah.
