Bio
Wilma Hazel Hopkins of Deshler, NE formerly of Ord, NE was born September 26, 1928 in Garfield County, Nebraska to Floyd and Effie (Wilson) Chatfield. She departed this life Thursday August 23, 2012 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, NE at the age of 83 years. She was confirmed June 9, 1946 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ord, NE. Wilma grew up in the Ord area attending Roseville District Seven grade school, and graduating from Ord High School. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for one year. She worked for a short time as an accountant and school teacher, her main occupation was homemaker taking care of her husband and children. She married Harry John Hopkins on July 25, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ord, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of six children. Wilma was proud to be a 4-H leader for forty three years. She belonged to the Happy Circle extension club, the women's Martha Circle at church, and served as church secretary. Interests include sewing, cooking, canning, having a large garden, helping with the farm animals, enjoyed having poodles when she lived at home, and most of all spending time with her children and family. Wilma's favorite trips included her honeymoon to the Black Hills and returning on their 28th wedding anniversary. Later she traveled to Colorado, Washington, Canada, Las Vegas, Kentucky and Texas visiting family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Robert Hopkins, brother Wilson Chatfield, brother-in-law Lee Buhlke. She is survived by five daughters; Cynthia Mohler of Colorado Springs, CO, Nancy Carlson and husband Jerry of Genoa, NE, Patsy Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Deann Hopkins and friend Donna of Cynthiana, KY, Ellen Schmidt and husband Andy of Deshler, NE, sister Beth Buhlke of Hasting, NE; two brothers; Alan Charfield and wife Teri of Leander, TX and Albert Chatfield and wife Barbara of Lincoln, NE, brother-inlaw Carroll Hopkins of Burwell, NE, thirteen grandchildren; Kelsy Moses and husband Virgil of Parker, CO, Kyle Mohler of Ord, NE Karri Neumann and husband Mike of Rochester, MN, Cherri Thieman and husband Jesse of McCool Junction, NE, Ariane Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Brienne Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Dominique Moore of Seattle, WA, Lauren, Leah, Lacey and Logan Schmidt of Deshler, NE, Elizabeth White of Windsor, MO, and Lisa Preissler and husband Jason of Harvard, NE, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Following Wilma's wishes her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska Medical Center. Memorial service will be held September 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ord, NE, with Rev. Glenda Pearson officiating, memorial in care of the family, Ellen Schmidt 5443 Rd G Deshler, NE. Deshler Memorial Funeral Home of Deshler, NE is in charge of arrangements.
