(info by Bev ) Thomas J Barker, age 33, enlisted in the U.S. Army on 5 March in Glendale, Mississippi. He was mustered in on 26 March 1863 in Corinth, Mississippi as a Private in Company D, 1st Alabama Cavalry. Thomas was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 2 November 1863. He was mustered out (term of service expired) on 25 March 1864 at Decatur, Alabama. At enlistment he was described as follows: occupation farmer; height 6 ft .75 inches; complexion light; eyes blue; hair sandy; born Fayette County, Alabama; age 33.
