AURORA - Helen (Nelson) Klein McConaughey, 87, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Memorial Hosptial. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. The Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Harvard Cemetery. Helen D. Nelson, daughter of Nels and Freda Nelson, was born near Eldorado, Neb., on Nov. 13, 1924, and passed away in Aurora, Neb., on Aug. 21, 2012, at the age of 87. She grew up on a farm near Harvard, and attended Country School District 29 and graduated from Harvard High School in 1942. She then taught country school near Harvard. On June 11, 1944, she was united in marriage to Wilbert Fred Klein, at her parent's home near Harvard. This union was blessed with eight children, Karen, Garry, David, Ralph, Gordon, Patti, Douglas and Randy. After their marriage, they farmed near Wolbach before moving to Loveland, Colo., briefly. They returned to Wolbach , and in 1955, they moved to the Giltner/Harvard area. In 1983, they moved to Aurora. Wilbert passed away on March 12, 1994. On Feb. 5, 2000, she was united in marriage to Willard (Gene) McConaughey. Gene passed away on Oct. 10, 2008. They enjoyed eight years of marriage together which made both of their families very happy. Helen was an active member of the Harvard United Church of Christ and a longtime member of the Hamilton County Extension Club in Giltner (GGG Club.) After moving to Aurora in 1983, she worked at the Hamilton Manor until she retired at age 75. Helen enjoyed bowling, quilting, flowers and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a son, David. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her seven children, Karen Moncrief of Aurora, Garry (Chris) Klein of Hastings, Ralph (Chris) Klein of Aurora, Gordon (Chris) Klein of Harvard, Patti (Dave) Marshall of Sioux City, Iowa, Doug (Vicki) Klein of Lincoln and Randy (Theresa) Klein of Wahoo; two stepchildren, David McConaughey of Sioux City, Iowa, and Maureen (Bob) Dieckmann of Aurora; 18 grandchildren, two stepgrandsons, nine great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and friends.
