Richard Milton "Dick" Tillman, Ponca City resident since 1953, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Westminster Village Nursing Home at the age of 80. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Smith, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Richard was born to Alton and Josephine (Thompson) Tillman in Muskogee, Oklahoma on September 7, 1928. He attended and graduated from the Muskogee high school in 1946. After graduation Dick served his country for three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his service, he attended Southern Methodist University where he earned BS and MS degrees in Chemistry. He joined the Research and Development Department of Conoco and spent the next 35 years in a variety of positions, including Manager of the Research Services Division, Manager of the Plant Foods Research Division and Associate Manager of the Petroleum Products Division. He met and married Hazel Christine Stanton while still in the Marine Corps. They were married for 60 years. She is originally from Robertsdale, Alabama. They had two sons, Michael W. Tillman of Zachary, LA and James M. Tillman of Broken Arrow. (Combined, the boys had six children and five stepchildren. The Tillmans were members of the First United Methodist Church of Ponca City and the Ponca City Country Club. Mr. Tillman was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Ponca City Rotary Club, an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society, a charter member of the Ponca City Rifle and Pistol Club and an accomplished photographer. Preceded in death by his father, Alton Tillman, mother Josephine Williams, and a brother, Robert Williams, he is survived by his loving wife, Christine of Ponca City, sons Michael Tillman and wife Debra of Zachary, LA, James Tillman and wife Robbin of Broken Arrow and half-brother Bill Tillman of Dallas, TX.
