Thanks to contributor #48796369 Ivan E. Dittmer, 64, of Wood River died Monday, May 24, 1999,a t St. Francis Hospital in Broken Arrow, Okla. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Countryside Christian Church in Kearney with the Rev. Ken Fairbrother officiating. Burial will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. He was born June 21, 1934, at Clarks to Bill and Bernita (Fox) Dittmer. He grew up in Clarks, graduating from Clarks High School. He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956, and also in the Army and National Guard. ollowing his military service, he farmed in Clarks and later worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Ainsworth, Valentine and Moses Lake, Wash. He moved to Grand Island where he was employed with the police department for eight years. He worked at Ainsworth as a police officer and then moved to Wausa to be police chief. In 1983, he returned to Grand Island and was employed at the Boys Home for the Mentally Retarded. He later worked for the VA Medical Center in Grand Island. On April 24, 1988, he married Coral Bilslend. They retired to Wood River in 1993, where he worked part time for the City of Shelton as a police officer. He was a member of the VFW and the Policeman's Association. Survivors include his wife, Wood River; sons, John, Concordia Kan., and Paul, Norfolk; daughter, Jane Wentz, Kearney; mother, Clarks; brother, Francis, Omaha; sister, Leona Scherer, Clarks; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
