Bio
Alvin L. Morgan, age 84, a resident of Austin for the past 63 years, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2003. Alvin was born in Smithville, Texas, on December 14, 1918. He moved to Austin in 1936 where he attended Nixon-Clay Business College. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II and worked as a homicide detective for the Austin Police Department for 32 years until his retirement in 1980. Alvin was an active member of the Austin Police Association. He also attended Congress Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred W. and Annie Rosanky Morgan and seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Bernice West Morgan; sons, Billy R. Morgan and wife, Kathy of San Antonio, Bobby D. Morgan and wife, Carolyn of Austin; four grandchildren, Melissa Tidwell and husband, Shawn, Keith Morgan and wife, Susan, Rebecca Norman and husband, Jim, Brent Morgan and wife, Elizabeth; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Cale and Trinity. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003, and 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Austin Police Association.
