OBIT: Childress – Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Howard Swain, 86, a former Childress resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at Newberry Chapel with J. R. Chism, minister of the Childress Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Newberry Funeral Home. She died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, February 27, 1977, in St Anthony's hospital in Amarillo. She had been living with a daughter for the past two years. Born September 15, 1890 to William and Mary Howard, in Red Clay, Ga., she moved to Childress County about 1912. She married William Swain November 28, 1917, in Childress. He died December 3, 1965. He was a retired fireman for the Fort Worth and Denver Railway. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Doris Blake of Amarillo and a grandson, Mike Blake of Yukon, Okla. Pallbearers will be nephews.
