Bio
William Leonard Gossett was born March 10, 1901 in Hunt County, Texas, son of John Randolph Gossett (1866-1934) and Anna Jane Pope (1880-1918). Leonard's mother died in 1918, leaving her husband with several children to raise. The 1920 Federal Census for Wolfe, Texas (Hunt County) shows William L. Gossett, a farmer, age 18, born in Texas; living with his father, John R. Gossett, a widower and a framer, age 51, born in Alabama. Also living in the household were Leonard's siblings: Cecil C. Gossett, a farmer, age 16; Buford H. Gossett, age 14; Lillie M. Gossett, age 11; and Jessie W. Gossett, age 7; all born in Texas. In November 1924, Leonard married Mildred Pauline Jenkins, who was born October 28, 1905 in Leesburg, Texas (Camp County), daughter of Baxter Greer Jenkins (1874-1949) and Lula Cassie Wall (1882-1972). Pauline died July 28, 1981 in Denison, Texas (Grayson County) and was buried in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) in the Highland Cemetery. Leonard died January 15, 1987 in Durant and was buried in Highland Cemetery beside his wife.
