Calvin Ross Motl, 82, passed away peacefully Friday night, Aug. 3, 2012, at Angelo Community Hospital after many complications from Parkinson disease. He was born July 11, 1930, in San Angelo, Texas and was the only child of George Motl and Liddy Chupik Motl. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1947, and received a bachelor's degree in business from San Angelo College, now Angelo State. During his youth he helped his dad at Motl's Radiator Shop and later worked for Schonrock Trailer Company as a draftsman. Later he became Vice President for McRan, Inc. In 1972, he started his own business as an authorized Delta Steel Building dealer. He constructed buildings throughout Texas and New Mexico and many of the commercial buildings here in San Angelo. He was active in the community as a member of the San Angelo Jaycees, served on the board of the YMCA in the sixties, was a member of the Sundown Lion's Club for 30 years, a P.T.A. life member, and served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments from 2008 until 2011. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bentwood Country Club where he enjoyed golf until his illness. He shared his love of hunting and fishing in Colorado and Wyoming with his father-in-law and brother-in-law until he took up snow skiing. It was what he enjoyed doing the most, especially with his friends and children and grandchildren. He traveled across the Midwest, trying out different popular ski areas. He kept a plaque in his office that read "If you can't ski in Heaven, I don't wanna go!" He was preceded in death by his parents.
