SPECIAL RANGER RAILROAD RANGER Gustave Paul Herman "Gus" Barkow was born October 19, 1891 in Sequin, Guadalupe County, Texas, to Dr. Gustaf Barkow (b. 1847, Germany) and Carolina Barkow. Gus stood 5ft. 11in. tall, had gray eyes and brown hair. He was married to Maude Ella Williams in Harris County, Texas in about 1913. They had two daughters. Gus was a railroad special agent in Waco. McLennon County, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a SPECIAL RANGER from August 10, 1917 until December 15. 1917. He re-enlisted from December 1917 until January 15, 1919. He worked as a special agent for the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific Railroads. Houston, Harris County, Texas. He enlisted as a RAILROAD RANGER August 21, 1922 through October 15, 1922. He was then discharged. As of May 1917, Gus was a special agent for the Texas and Pacific Railway Company in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. Gus was also listed as a city probation officer in 1917, Houston City Directory. He was a railroad special agaent in 1920, living in Victoria, Victoria County, Texas. In 1930, Gus was the secretary for a chemical company, living in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. Gustave Paul Herman Barkow died March 1, 1972 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. He was buried in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
