Son of Moses and Elizabeth Kester, was born in Cedar Co., Iowa. When he was 18 he and a brother came to Kansas and took a homestead near Utopia. He married Matilda Harmon (a first cousin) in Oct. 1874. She preceded him in death Jan. 4, 1933 at Billings, Montana. To this union were born 13 children, several of whom preceded him in death. Remaining are Will, Roy, Byron, Dewey, and Peter Jr. of Montana, and Jess of Eureka. Also, one brother Joe of Quincy, Kans and four sisters, Kate Campbell of Chanute, Kans., Libby Willard of Wichita, Abby Haskins of Wellington, Kans., and Ora Bakerink of Fontanelle, Iowa, and 9 grandchildren. He worked for Houston Lumber Co. in Eureka for 23 years and in the spring of 1913 with his wife and three sons moved to Montana where he resided until 4 months ago when he returned to Eureka and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jess Kester. His health had been failing for some time and he was seriously ill for several weeks before his death. The funeral service was held at the Baptist church conducted by S. P. Brite. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
