BURES, JAMES B.—James B. Bures, son of Frank and Josephine Bures, was born February 22, 1887 on a farm seven miles south of Exeter. He passed away May 31, 1954, at the Geneva General hospital at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 9 days. He grew to manhood at the farm home and attended school at District 2. He spent two years in Canada and then returned to help on the farm. October 8, 1913, he was married to Ella A. Schmidt. He took over the dray business in Milligan in 1912 and continued there for two years. From there the family moved to the farm near Burress. Three years later they moved to the farm northwest of Geneva where they have lived since. Due to a lingering illness, he gave up farming four years ago. He enjoyed his home and family and especially his granddaughter, Linda Louise. He was a member of the Bohemian Z. C. B. J. Lodge at Milligan for many years. Surviving besides his wife, Ella, is a daughter, Sylvia, son-in-law, Ross Johnson and granddaughter, Linda Louise, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Zeleny of Fairmont and Mrs. Rose Sluka of Geneva, four brothers, Joseph and Charles of Fairmont, William of Geneva and Tom of Exeter, his mother-in-0law, Mrs. Mary Schmidt, several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Albert, three half-brothers and three half-sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, June 3, at 2 at the congregational church in Geneva. Rev. L. E. Werner officiated. Mrs. Gerald Pickerell sang with Mrs. Willard Foster, accompanist. Burial was in the Geneva cemetery. Nephews, Fred Votipka, Erwin Bures, Mike Zeleny, Richard Bures, Frank Bures and Leo Bures, acted as pallbearers. The Nebraska Signal 10 June 1954 page 1.
