Bio
Gladys Freda Keathley, 93, of Austin, died peacefully at home in Weatherford, TX , surrounded by her loved ones, on July 21, 2012. Gladys was born on a farm near Somerset,TX to Rev. Louis and Frances Heickman. She was the ninth of their eleven children. She and her husband, Frank, eloped when she was 19 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. After living in New Orleans, LA, San Antonio and Victoria, TX, the family finally settled in Austin in 1963 where Frank taught at McCallum H.S.and Gladys worked for the IRS. Both were faithful members of Hyde Park Baptist Church for over 40 years where Gladys enjoyed singing alto in the choir and being a greeter during Sunday School. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Keathley, daughter Fran Carter of Austin, and great-grandsons C.J. Greenlees and Asher Chappell. She is survived by her daughters Joan Emmer of Houston, Mary Jo Nichols of Fort Worth, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 11:00 AM at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 3901 Speedway, Austin, TX 78751. Burial Heickman Cemetery, Somerset. Arrangements by Cook-Walden, Lamar.
