Edith Hanson Jacobs, 86, of Carrollton, Texas passed away July 21, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born December 12, 1925 on Happy Hill Farm in Conde, South Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Alice Hanson, sister of Carl Hanson. She grew up in Conde and graduated from High School in June 1943. She attended college in Watertown, SD. She was married to Wilbur Jacobs on her parent's farm on April 5, 1946. Their marriage produced 2 sons, Don Robert and Dale Edward. During the years she was raising her children, the family lived in Oak Cliff and Dallas. In 1977 Edith moved to Carrollton where she has been an active member of the community. She attended Royal Haven Baptist Church for many years. She was asked to be a member of the church planting team for Woodlake Baptist. She was a charter member of Rosemead Baptist Church; which became Vista Ridge Baptist Church. She has attended First Baptist Carrollton for the past 10 years enjoying many church activities. Her Christian friends were a vital part of her life. Edith inherited a strong work ethic from her Swedish ancestry and held several jobs over the years and owned Eastgate Secretarial Service until she retired at the age of 65. Her passion was gardening which she inherited from her mother. She was also a voracious walker putting in 3 miles almost every day. Edith had a very active retirement. She worked part time for Brookhaven Community College Library for over 15 years. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Operation Kindness and holds the distinction of being the 4th longest volunteer at Baylor Medical Center Carrollton, with over 20 years of volunteer service. She will be remembered for her love of travel, having made 2 trips to Hawaii, a trip to Sweden to research her ancestry, many trips with her sons, her brother and his wife, and many bus trips with all her church friends. Edith is survived by her sister-in-law Alice Hanson, her sons Don Robert Jacobs and Dale Jacobs. Her daughter-in-law Joy Jacobs, her two grandchildren Sarah Jacobs and Robert Jacobs and her favorite (and only) great-grand-daughter Alivia Valdez. The family wishes to thank her many friends for their loving care during her recent illness. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Forerunners or Baylor Medical Carrollton Volunteers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton. Visitation will be prior to the services, beginning at 9:30am.
