Bio

Chris Fischer December 11, 1923- July 13, 2102 Chris Fischer was born Lois Christeen Layne on December 11, 1923, in Wichita, Kansas, and died peacefully at age 88 on July 13th, 2012, at her home at The Vistas Assisted Living in Redding. As a teenager, she moved with her mother and siblings to Paso Robles, California, where she was to meet the love of her life, Ray Fischer. She was working for a wired music business and he worked for Pacific Telephone at the time and shortly thereafter in 1942 they eloped to Reno, with her mother's blessing, before he joined the Army Air Corps. When he returned and they settled into their long and loving marriage, their family lived in Paso Robles, Hollister, Salinas, Merced, Redwood City, Napa, Redding and Sacramento over the years. Although she was a full-time housewife and mother, Chris found time over the years to volunteer in several hospitals, belong to local Womens' Clubs, and serve as an active member of the Republican Women of Northern California, Federated, serving as their Northern Section President in 1984-85. In 2009 they sold their Carmichael home of 42 years, returning to Redding to be closer to family. Chris survived Ray by 2 ½ years and never got over his sudden loss in January of 2010. Chris is survived by her sons, Steve and Phil and their wives Nancy and Pam, grandchildren Sarah Fischer, Becky Fogarty, Matt Fischer, Zac Fischer, Brian Campbell, and Jennifer Cereghino, great grandchildren Casen Fogarty and Oliver Fischer. A brief interment service will be held at the Northern California Veterans' Cemetery in Igo, California, on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. If you care to stop by for a "kind word and a touch of the hand," she would understand. If you want to send flowers, please send them in her name to the loving and caring staff at The Vistas Assisted Living, 3030 Heritagetown Drive, Redding , CA 96002, or contribute to the music programs supported by the 501(C)(3) Straight Ahead Big Band Institute, c/o Chris Fischer, 1725 Chicory Court, Redding, CA 96002.
