Joe Rogelstad, 83, of rural Heimdal, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. Joe Rogelstad, son of John and Helen (Floberg) Rogelstad, was born November 2, 1926, on the family farm southeast of Heimdal, where he grew up and began farming with his father at an early age. He received his early education in rural Heimdal country schools and later attended Fessenden High School, graduating in 1944. On March 8, 1945 Joe entered the US Army and served his country during World War II. He served 14 months in the Philippines and, following his honorable discharge on December 5, 1946, returned home to farm with his father. On December 27, 1952, he was married to Dorothy Solheim in Tacoma, Wash. They made their home on the Rogelstad farm, where they farmed and eventually took over the family farm in the early 1960s. Dorothy passed away January 12, 1967. In addition to farming, Joe worked as a substitute rural mail carrier and later a full-time mail carrier out of Heimdal for a number of years. On December 10, 1970, Joe was married to Alice Cline Huber at Heimdal. They made their home on the Rogelstad farm, where he lived his entire life. Joe was a member of the East Vang Lutheran Church until its closure and had been a member of the Hoff Lutheran Church in Heimdal since. He was also a member of the Frank Proisl American Legion Post No. 33 of Fessenden, the V.F.W. Post No. 1868 of Harvey and the Eagles Aerie in Harvey. He is survived by: his wife, Alice of Harvey; 2 sons, Marc (Brenda) of Boardman, Ore.,R and Tim of rural Heimdal; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Joe) Gross of Arvada, Colo.; 8 grandchildren, Adam, Heather, Cassandra, Alex, Ben, Caleb, Chanda and Justin; 1 great-grandson, Izaac; and 2 sisters, Muriel Delzer of Fessenden and Betty Lunneborg of Milnor. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; and his parents. Funeral: Will be Tuesday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the Hoff Lutheran Church in Heimdal. Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden. Visitation: Will be held Monday, June 21, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
