Bio

Daughter of Samuel Herrick and Catherine Molloy. ~~~~~~~ Raphael Hoult Jolliffe, married Priscilla Herrick Aug. 24, 1834. Uriah Springer as Justice of the Peace in Brown Co., Ohio. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Johnson Co., Indiana. In 1814, Raphael's father, John Jolliffe, Sr., made a trip to Woodford Co., Kentucky and purchased a farm in what was then Adams Co., Ohio, from Samuel Steveson. The purchase was completed Sept. 2, 1814. It is presumed that this farm east of Russelville, Ohio, was Rapael's home until his marriage to Priscilla Herrick on Aug. 24, 1834. Raphael and Priscilla sold their farm land north of Hurdland, Missouri, May 17, 1854. On Jan. 25, 1858 Raphael purchased another farm within 1/2 mile of the one sold 4 years earlier. By the 1860 census o f Knox Co., Mo., Priscilla's mother, Catharine Bowler, and her 1/2 brother, Samuel Bowler, were living in Knox Co., Mo., with Priscilla's daughter Mrs. Munns . Priscilla died 4-17-1861. At that time, Thomas H. Benton, Sarah Margaret , and Mary Ann Matilda as well, went to live with Mrs. Munns. No one ever knew exactly why, unless it was to provide for his sons.
