Bio

Scottsbluff- A graveside service for Guy Stevens, 88, of 1102 W 42nd St, who died Feb 3, 1988 in Hot Springs, S.D. veterans hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery here with the Rev. Lewis Warren officiating. Military honors will be given by Admiral Dewey VFW Post No 1681. Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m Monday at Jolliffe Funeral Home here. Memorial shave been established to Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home and to the donor’s choice. He was born Dec 25, 1899 at Middle Branch to Prince and Hannah (Jones) Stevens. He grew at Page and graduated fom high school there. He received his degree in pharmacy from Babcock Institute at Des Moines, Iowa and he returned to northeastern Nebraska to practice pharmacy. He served with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater and was serving as chief pharmacist mate when discharged in 1945. He married Lucile Carrigan March 29, 1946 and they moved to Lincoln that year. In 1949 they came to Scottsbluff, where he owned and operated Steven’s Drug Store until selling the business in 1968. He continued working as a pharmacist in Scottsbluff and the surrounding area until his retirement. He was a life time member of the VFW post and a member of Scottsbluff Elks Lodge No 1367 Survivors include his son, Lyle Stevens of Omaha, stepson Gerald Frandsen of Reno, Nev.; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife and his sister. ***note - Obituary states born on the 25th. Gravestone and government records give birth date as the 24th.
