From the Northfield News: Rose Marie (Koester) Decker, Rt. 1,Northfield, died April 7,1987, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was 85. Rose Koester was born March 6, 1902, to Frank L. and Sarah (Sommers) Koester. She lived her entire life on the farm where she was born. She had attended township schools. She married Arthur J. Decker on Oct. 5,1940. They farmed until their retirement in 1981. She was a master gardener and showed vegetables and flowers at fairs, winning numerous sweepstakes prizes at the State Fair. She was pictured in Sunday Picture Magazine a few years ago with her prize-winning fair entries. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving Decker are sisters-in-law, including Cora Koester of Northfield; brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Walter and William Koester and her sisters Cora Koester and Grace DeWolfe. The funeral was held Friday, April10 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Brennan officiating. Mary Zoe Scott was organist and Sigurd Fredrickson soloist. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were her nephews Ralph Koester, Malcolm Koester, Richard Koester, David Koester, Vernon Koester and Thomas Swanson. Relatives attending were two sisters-in-law, Mildred Bollech of Athens, Wis., and Eleanor Wohlford of Wausau, Wis.; three brothers-in-law, Norbert and Arnold Decker of Athens, Wis., and Victor Decker of Owen, Wis. Arrangements were made by the Bierman Funeral Home.
