Daughter of Edward & Anna (Turek) Shonka. She attended school in Surprise, Nebraska. On February 11, 1946 she was united in marriage to Raymond Tlamka at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. The couple lived in Columbus where Bertha raised her family and worked at Becton - Dickinson as a needle inspector. She was a member of St. Isidore Church, Christian Mothers. and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
