Bio

Burial: 17 August 1915 Newspaper Article – Salt Lake Herald, Salt Lake City, Utah. 17th Aug 1915 KILLED BY 75-FOOT FALL IN ELEVATOR Melvin Mayberry, 22 Years Old, Lost Balance in Structure Being Built in Eureka While working on a grain elevator six miles from Tintic Saturday, Melvin Mayberry, aged 22, and a resident of this city, fell 75 feet to the concrete floor of the elevator, receiving internal injuries from which he died a few hours later. Mayberry was employed by the Burrell Engineering company of Chicago, which is constructing a cement grain elevator for Jesse Knight near Tintic. About 5 o'clock in the afternoon Mayberry and Hersel Walker, both of Lehi, were engaged in tearing out the inside forms from one of the tubes of the elevator. Walker had entered the tube through a manhole at the top, and had let himself down to the scaffolding by means of a rope. He shouted to Mayberry that it was unnecessary for him to enter the tube as he (Walker) could hand him the forms. Mayberry did not hear him apparently, as he entered the tube and accidently slid past the scaffolding. Seeing his danger, he lost his balance, and releasing his hold of the rope fell to the cement floor at the bottom. Mayberry was picked up immediately in an unconscious condition. He was given medical attention and hurried on a train to Eureka. He regained consciousness but died shortly after 9 o'clock at Eureka. Mayberry is survived by a wife and a four-months infant.
